PATHWAYS AND PASSAGES was fully funded and completed while on a fellowship at La Muse Writer and Artist Retreat in the mountain village of Labastide Esparbairenque in the south of France.

It is one of a series of three sets of nine drawings entitled “Silent Witnesses”, that document seemingly ordinary or unseen architectural elements and return them to the consciousness of a community, acknowledging them as living “members” of that community.  The selected architectural elements define the persona of each village, and have acted as silent witnesses to its history.  As architectural personifiers, the theme selected for the set of drawings is a reflection of Rites of Passage of the villagers and of the architecture itself.
